Wanda Mae Schmidt (1942-2018)

Funeral services will be held April 19, 2018 at 2pm with an all-day viewing Wednesday at LaGrone-Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home located at 8310 Coulter Street Amarillo Texas 79119. Burial will be at 10:00 am Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Lusk Cemetery, Lusk, Wyoming. Wanda was born in Springview, Nebraska on May 29, 1942 to Guy Charles Brewer and Dorothy Lorraine Packard who precede her in death as well as her younger brother Keith Eldon Brewer. She met and married the love of her life Donald Eugene Schmidt May 28, 1960, who also precedes her in death. Together they had three children Joseph Charles, Donald “Gene”, and Carmen Lorraine.Her heart lead her to follow her passion and in 1974, she graduated from a nursing college in Scottsbluff, Nebraska with her LVN degree. They then moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1975 where upon arriving Wanda took a job at St. Anthony’s as a pediatric nurse where she worked for many years as an LVN. After many years of working for the hospital and doctor’s offices, she transitioned into home health care taking care of sick and disabled children. She loved nursing and even after retiring and being placed at the Heritage Convalescent Center her care taking genes drove her to become President of the Resident Council helping plan and coordinate activities for her peers within the nursing home, she loved being an Ambassador for the other senior citizens. Wanda loved helping everyone, taking care of people, doing her crosswords, watching Wheel of Fortune, Wrestling, and her family and friends. She is survived by son Joseph Charles Schmidt, daughter Carmen Lorraine Nichols, and sister Phyllis Jean Carlson of Potter Nebraska, her grand-daughters; Stephanie Schmidt, LeTisha Poynor, Charlotte Squyres, Nicole Marks, and Katherine Nichols, as well as her grandsons; Christopher Vaughn, Derrick Vaughn, Nicholas Nichols, and Justin Schmidt.
